Desmond Williams - Serenade

Tonight,
The porch light paints my portrait
On your front door,
In silhouette,

Tonight,
As dewdrops wet the grass,
They make a canvas of your front steps,
And a monochrome watercolor record,
Of my ascent,
As I proceed,
Heaven bent,

And the bottom left pane of glass
Set firmly in your window frame,
Hears the familiar rhythm
Of my gentle taps,
Moments before my approach,

Tonight the wind chimes beside your swing
Compose a requiem for the wasted day without you,
They sing softly as they slowly sway,
In anticipation of my song,
The lullaby lingers lovingly
On and on and on,
As they sweeten the sound,
Of my nightly serenade
