【Ghetto】我們的圍城／ 1984

　
　
1984　美國舉辦洛杉磯奧運

和Barry White一樣，Wayne Henderson、Joe Sample、Stix Hooper、Wilton Felder、Hubert Laws、Larry Carlton、Robert Popwell等幾位爵士大師的團體The Crusaders，八零年代也不怎麼靈光。專輯《Ghetto Blaster》搭上時興的放克爵士風潮，丟給聽眾的不再是具有時代意義的音樂內容。畢竟，當時的美國正值總統Reagan上臺不久，經濟起飛、享樂氣氛濃厚，十年前存在人們心中的那份生活憂懼感，早已消失無蹤。

Earth, Wind & Fire主唱Philip Bailey在這一年推出了他單飛不解散的第二張大碟《Chinese Wall》，關門曲就是〈Children of the Ghetto〉。《Chinese Wall》是Philip Bailey與好友Phil Collins合作的概念作品，曲風豐富多元，而在這個時機點翻唱The Real Thing的〈Children of the Ghetto〉，綻放出的是冷戰末期世界觀，讓「Ghetto」的意義不再局限於黑人自身。
